One Night With My Billionaire Boss Chapter 1 The Day He Asked For A Divorce

The divorce papers sat on the table. Adrian had left them there ten minutes ago, along with three years of our marriage.

***

The clock on the wall showed seven in the evening.

This was the time Adrian usually came home.

The soup was his favorite. I had learned to cook it during our first year of marriage.

Back then, he once said it tasted good. Just once. That single sentence stayed with me for three years.

The front door opened.

My heart jumped.

I turned around quickly, a small smile forming on my lips. "You are back."

Adrian Blake walked in with a cold face. He was tall and handsome, wearing a black suit that looked expensive even without trying.

His tie was neat. His hair was perfect, he did not look at the soup in my hands, he did not look at me either.

He loosened his tie and walked straight to the sofa. "We need to talk."

Those four words made my fingers tighten around the bowl.

I nodded. "Let me put the soup down first.

You must be tired, you did not eat lunch again, right?"

He finally looked at me, his eyes were calm, too calm.

"No need." He said

He took a brown envelope from his briefcase and placed it on the table.

The sound it made was soft, but it felt loud in my ears.

I looked at the envelope. My heart started to beat fast.

"What is that" I asked quietly.

He leaned back on the sofa, his posture relaxed. "Divorce papers." He said

The word divorce hit me so hard.

For a moment, I could not breathe. I stood there, frozen, the soup slowly cooling in my hands.

I had imagined many things in this marriage,i imagined him coming home earlier, I imagined him smiling at me, I imagined us having a child one day but I never imagined this.

"Why" I asked.

My voice sounded strange, like it did not belong to me.

Adrian crossed his legs. "This marriage has no meaning anymore."

I laughed softly, without humor.

"Did it ever have meaning to you" I said

He frowned slightly. "Do not make this difficult."

Those words hurt more than I expected.

For three years, I had tried my best to be a good wife.

I woke up early every day to prepare breakfast even though he never ate at home.

I waited for him late at night even though he rarely came back before midnight.

I endured his silence, his distance, his cold eyes.

I told myself he was just busy, I told myself love could grow with time but now he was telling me our marriage had no meaning.

I walked slowly to the table and put the soup down.

My hands were shaking.

"Is it because of her" I asked.

His eyes darkened for a second, that was enough.

I smiled bitterly.

So it was true, everyone in the city knew Adrian Blake had a white moonlight in his heart.

Her name was Sophia, she was his first love, the woman he could never forget.

She had returned three months ago. After that, Adrian started coming home even less.

"She is sick," he said suddenly.

"She needs rest. I cannot let her be disturbed by rumors."

I looked at him in disbelief.

"So you divorce me to protect her reputation" I asked.

"This is the best solution," he replied calmly. "You will get compensation."

He pushed an envelope toward me.

"There is a house and money. It is enough for you to live well."

I stared at the envelope. So this was what our three year marriage was worth.

I sat down slowly on the chair opposite him.

"Adrian," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Do you remember why we got married" He did not answer.

I continued, even though my chest felt tight. "Your grandmother liked me.

She said I was gentle and suitable to be a Blake wife, you needed a wife, I needed a place to stay. It was a deal."

"Yes," he said. "That is why we should end it now."

I nodded slowly.

Yes, It was a deal, so why did my heart hurt like this I picked up the divorce papers and flipped through them.

Every word was clear and clean He had prepared everything.

He must have thought about this for a long time.

"When do you want it done" I asked.

"Tomorrow." He said

''Tomorrow? So fast'' l asked then smiled faintly

"Alright." That single word made him look at me.

He studied my face, as if he was surprised. "You agree?" He asked

"Yes," I said. "I agree."

For a moment, there was silence between us.

Maybe he expected me to cry, beg or ask him to reconsider but I did none of that.

"I will sign it," I continued. "But I have one condition."

His eyes narrowed slightly. "What condition"

"After the divorce," I said softly, "we will have nothing to do with each other. If we meet again in the future, we will be strangers."

He stared at me for a long time.

Then he nodded. "Fine."

I picked up the pen on the table.

As I signed my name, memories flashed through my mind.

The day we got married, the empty wedding room, the nights I waited alone, the mornings I woke up to silence.

When I finished signing, my hand felt numb.

I pushed the papers back to him. "Done."

He took them and stood up.

"I will have my assistant contact you tomorrow," he said.

He walked toward the door, just before leaving, he stopped. "You can stay in the villa for tonight."

Then he left. The door closed softly behind him.

The sound echoed in the quiet house.

I sat there for a long time.

The soup on the table had gone cold. I looked at it and suddenly laughed.

Tears fell into the bowl, I covered my mouth, afraid of making a sound.

I had loved Adrian Blake, even though he never loved me back.

That night, I packed my things.

I did not take much, just clothes, documents, and a small box from the bottom of the drawer.

Inside the box was a certificate, a medical license.

I touched it gently.

Three years ago, I gave up my career for this marriage.

Three years later, I was leaving with nothing.

Tears gently rolled down from my eyes I looked around the villa one last time. "This is goodbye," I whispered.

The next morning, the divorce was finalized.

By afternoon, I was gone.

Adrian did not know, he did not know that the woman he divorced that day was no longer the same woman he once ignored.

And he definitely did not know that one day, he would regret signing those papers more than anything else in his life but that was a story for later.

For now, I walked out of the civil office alone, holding the divorce certificate in my hand.

The sun was bright.

I lifted my head and smiled.

Behind me, a black car stopped slowly.

Adrian stepped out.

When he looked up and saw me smiling, something strange stirred in his chest.

For the first time, he felt it.

A feeling he did not understand, and he did not know yet that this was the moment his regret began.

One Night With My Billionaire Boss Chapter 2 After The Divorce

The wind blowed against my face as I stepped out of the civil office.

The divorce certificate felt light in my hand, yet my heart felt heavy. Three years of marriage ended with a few stamps and signatures. No tears, no drama just silence.

I did not look back.

Behind me, Adrian stood near his car. He watched my back slowly disappear into the crowd. He did not know why his chest felt tight.

He told himself it was relief.

Yes.

Relief.

This marriage was finally over. That was what he believed.

As the car passed the street corner, Adrian glanced out of the window without thinking.

I was standing there, holding a small suitcase.

I was smiling.

It was not a sad smile, not a forced smile.

It was calm and peaceful.

That smile made his fingers tighten slightly. He looked away quickly.

"She is good at acting," he said coldly. "She always has been."

***

A small apartment on the east side of the city.

I looked up at the faded walls and smiled.

This place was far from the Blake villa, far from memories, far from Adrian.

Inside the apartment, it was quiet. Sunlight came in through the window, dust floated in the air.

I put my suitcase down and sat on the floor.

I breathe quietly with a force smile on my face.

The smile slowly broke.

Tears fell without warning.

I did not cry loudly.

I just sat there, hugging my knees, letting the tears fall.

I cried for the nights I waited alone.

I cried for the meals that went cold.

I cried for the love I never received.

"Enough," I said to my reflection. "Crying will not change anything."

I opened the small box again.

The medical license lay quietly inside.

My fingers trembled slightly as I picked it up.

Before marriage, I worked at the best private hospital in the city.

I had a future, I had dreams.

Then I became Adrian Blake's wife and I disappeared.

"It is time to go back," I whispered.

That afternoon, I made a phone call.

"Hello" a warm female voice said.

"Auntie," I said softly. "It is me."

There was a pause, then a sharp intake of breath.

"Yvonne Is that really you" the woman asked. "Where have you been all these years, do you know how worried I was"

"I am sorry," I said. "I will explain everything when we meet."

"Then come to the hospital, I will wait for you." She said

I hung up the phone and closed my eyes.

Tomorrow, everything would start again.

***

At the Blake villa, the house felt strangely quiet.

Adrian loosened his tie and walked inside.

No lights were on.

Normally, even if she was asleep, she always left a lamp on in the living room.

She once told him it made the house feel warm.

He frowned slightly and turned on the lights.

The house was empty, too empty.

There was no message, no missed call.

"She agreed to the divorce," he said to himself. "This is what she wanted."

But for some reason, his chest felt uncomfortable.

***

Bright Star Private Hospital

I looked at it for a long time. This place used to be my second home.

The smell of disinfectant filled the air. Doctors and nurses walked past me, busy and focused.

I felt like I belonged again.

"Yvonne" I turned around.

A woman in her fifties stood behind me, her hair was neatly tied, her eyes were sharp but kind.

"Auntie Lin," I said.

She walked over and hugged me tightly.

"You got divorced?," she asked suddenly.

I was not surprised.

Auntie Lin was never someone you could hide things from.

"Yes." I said

She sighed. "I told you back then. Do not marry for gratitude, it never ends well."

I lowered my head. "I know."

She patted my shoulder.

"Come with me." She said

Inside her office, she poured me a cup of tea.

"So," she said, sitting down."What are your plans"

"I want to work again," I replied. "If the hospital will have me."

She laughed. "You think I would let talent like yours go?"

My eyes widened. "You mean?"

"I kept your position open for three years," she said calmly. "I knew one day you would come back."

My throat tightened.

"Thank you," I whispered.

"You start next week," she continued. "But this time, you will be more than just a doctor."

I looked up.

"You will be the head of the emergency department."

I froze

"That is too much," I said quickly. "I have been away for years."

"You never stopped studying," she said. "Your records are perfect. And I trust you."

Tears filled my eyes again.

This time, they were not tears of pain, they were tears of rebirth.

***

That evening, Adrian attended a dinner party.

Sophia sat beside him, wearing a gentle smile.

"You look tired," she said softly. "Are you still not used to living alone"

He paused.

"No," he replied. "I am fine."

She leaned closer. "I am glad you got divorced," she said. "It is better for everyone."

He nodded. "Yes."

But when he returned home that night, the villa felt colder than ever.

He stood in the living room and suddenly remembered something.

The soup.

Every night, no matter how late he came home, there was always soup.

Even if he never drank it.

Now, there was nothing, no warm light, no waiting figure only silence.

For the first time, he felt something close to unease.

***

A week later, I put on my white coat.

"Welcome back," I said to myself.

The hospital corridor was busy.

"Doctor Carter, emergency room three needs you."

"I am coming."

As I walked past the glass wall, a familiar figure appeared on the other side.

Tall, cold and perfect.

Adrian Blake.

He was standing at the entrance of the emergency department, looking around impatiently.

Why was he here?

Before I could think more, his eyes met mine.

Time seemed to stop.

His pupils shrank.

He looked shocked when he see me. "You," he said.

I stopped in front of him, calm and distant.

"Mr Blake," I replied politely. "Please wait outside. You are blocking the way."

He stared at me, as if he was seeing a stranger.

"You are a doctor" he asked.

"Yes," I answered simply.

His eyes dropped to the name badge on my chest.

Doctor Yvonne Carter.

Not Mrs Blake.

Something inside him cracked.

Just then, a nurse rushed over.

"Doctor Carter, the patient's condition is critical."

I turned away from Adrian without hesitation.

"I am coming," I said.

As I walked into the emergency room, Adrian stood frozen in place.

For the first time since the divorce, he realized something terrifying.

The woman he let go of was no longer someone he could easily reach.

And he had no idea how to pull her back.

One Night With My Billionaire Boss Chapter 3 The Woman He Could Not Touch

The emergency room doors closed behind me.

The noise outside faded, replaced by sharp voices and fast footsteps.

Monitors beeped, nurses moved around with speed.

"Female, forty five years old, sudden chest pain, blood pressure unstable."

I put on my gloves.

"Prepare for ECG. Oxygen first."

My voice was calm and relaxed.

This was the world I belonged to.

Ten minutes later, the patient's condition stabilized. The danger passed for now.

"Good work, Doctor Carter," the nurse said with relief.

I nodded and stepped back.

Only then did I realize my back was soaked with sweat.

I walked out of the emergency room and removed my gloves.

The corridor was quiet now.

And then I saw him again.

Adrian Blake was still standing there, he had not moved.

His eyes followed me as if I was the only thing in the hallway.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

"You work here," he said finally.

"Yes." I replied.

His voice sounded hoarse. "When did this happen"

I looked at him calmly.

"That is not something I need to explain to my ex husband."

The word ex husband hit him hard.

"I did not know," he said. "You never told me."

I almost laughed.

"I did not know I needed permission to exist," I replied.

A nurse passed by and looked at us curiously.

I took a step back.

"If you have no medical business here, please leave," I said. "This is a hospital."

He looked at me for a long time.

Then he asked, "Who was the patient"

"A stranger," I answered. "Like us now."

His face stiffened.

Before he could say anything else, Sophia's voice sounded from behind him.

"Adrian" She walked toward us, her face pale, her hand pressed against her chest.

"I am feeling dizzy again," she said softly.

His attention immediately shifted to her.

"Sit down," he said, supporting her arm.

He turned to me.

"Check her," he said. "Now."

I looked at his hand on her arm, at the protectiveness in his eyes.

It was the look he never gave me.

"I am not her attending doctor," I said calmly. "Please register at the front desk."

Sophia looked at me then.

Her eyes widened slightly. "You are"

She stopped mid sentence.

Recognition flashed across her face.

"So it is you," she said softly. "Adrian's wife."

"Ex wife," I corrected.

Sophia bit her lip.

"I am sorry," she said. "I did not mean to cause trouble."

I smiled faintly. "You did not."

Another doctor walked over.

"Doctor Carter, Director Lin asked for you."

"I will be there."

I turned and walked away without looking back.

Behind me, Adrian watched my back disappear again.

The same way it had disappeared outside the civil office.

But this time, the feeling in his chest was stronger, sharper and almost painful.

That night, Adrian did not sleep well.

The image of me in a white coat kept appearing in his mind.

Confident, cold and untouchable.

He remembered how I used to wait for him at home.

How I lowered my head when he spoke.

How my voice was always gentle, but the woman he saw today did not look at him with love.

She did not look at him at all.

He sat up in bed and rubbed his forehead.

"This is just temporary," he said to himself.

"She is acting strong." That had to be it. She had always been good at pretending.

The next day, the news spread quietly through the city.

Doctor Yvonne Carter had returned, not just returned.

She was now the head of the emergency department at Bright Star Private Hospital.

People were surprised.

Some remembered her and some did not.

But one thing was certain, she was no longer just someone's wife.

At the hospital, my days became busy.

Meetings, surgeries, emergency calls.

I barely had time to breathe and I liked it.

For the first time in years, I felt alive.

During lunch break, Auntie Lin sat across from me.

"You saw Adrian yesterday," she said casually.

"Yes." I answered.

"And?" She asked.

"And nothing," I replied.

She studied me. "You sound calm."

"I am calm." She said

She smiled. "Good. That means you are truly over him."

I did not answer.

Was I truly over him?

I did not know, but I knew one thing, i would never go back.

That afternoon, a luxury car stopped outside the hospital.

Adrian stepped out.

This time, he came alone.

He walked straight to the emergency department.

The nurse stopped him.

"Sir, you need an appointment?"

"I am here to see Doctor Carter." He said

The nurse hesitated.

"She is in surgery."

"I will wait."

He sat down on the chair.

One hour passed.

Then two.

People came and went.

Finally, the surgery room door opened. I walked out, removing my mask.

My eyes met his eyes.

"You are here again," I said.

"Yes." He answered.

"For Sophia?"

"No."

That surprised me.

"Then why?"

"I came to see you."

I looked at him quietly.

"Is that necessary"

"Yes."

I walked to the sink and washed my hands.

When I turned back, he was standing closer.

"Yvonne," he said. "Why did you never tell me you were a doctor?"

I dried my hands slowly.

"Why did you never ask"

He frowned.

"You never talked about it."

"You never listened," I replied.

Silence fell between us.

"I thought you were just a housewife," he said honestly. "I thought you needed me."

I looked at him and smiled.

"That was your biggest mistake."

His chest tightened.

"I gave up my career for that marriage," I continued. "Not because you asked, Because I chose to."

He opened his mouth, then closed it again.

"I regret it," he said suddenly.

The word regret made my heart skip but my face remained calm.

"You regret divorcing me?" I asked.

He hesitated.

"I regret not knowing you," he said.

I laughed softly. "That is even worse."

He stepped closer.

"Can we talk somewhere else"

"There is nothing to talk about." I said.

"Yvonne"

"Doctor Carter," I corrected.

He stiffened.

I turned to leave.

He reached out and grabbed my wrist.

The touch sent a shock through both of us.

I froze and he froze too.

Slowly, I pulled my hand back.

"Do not touch me," I said quietly.

The warning in my voice was clear.

People around us started to look

. He lowered his hand.

"I am sorry," he said.

I nodded once.

"Goodbye, Mr Blake."

That night, Adrian stood alone on the balcony of the villa.

The city lights shone brightly.

But the house behind him was dark, quiet and filled with loneliness.

For the first time, he poured himself a cup of soup.

Instant soup.

He took one sip and frowned.

It tasted nothing like mine.

He suddenly realized something.

I did not just leave the marriage.

I took warmth with me.

At the hospital, I finished my shift late.

As I walked out, my phone vibrated.

An unknown number.

I answered. "Hello"

"Doctor Carter," a male voice said.

"This is James Moore from Zenith Medical Group.

"We would like to invite you to join our international medical project."

I stopped walking.

Zenith Medical Group was the top medical group in the country.

"You want me?" I asked with surprised

"Yes," he replied.

"We have been observing you for a long time."

My heart beat faster.

"When would you like to meet"

"Tomorrow, if possible."

I looked up at the night sky.

"Tomorrow is fine."

I hung up the phone.

I did not know it yet, but this call was about to change everything.

And when Adrian found out where I was going next, he would finally understand.

Divorcing me was not the end of his problem. It was the beginning.
